  • GEOGRAPHICAL CARDINALS

You’ll love this wondrous Honde Valley with its breath taking scenery and natural splendours. It also has the incredible diversity of wild places on offer; simply stunning mountain views and forest hikes a taste of natural beauty.

Honde Valley extends from the eastern border of Zimbabwe into Mozambique. The valley is part of the Eastern Highlands and it is about 130 kilometres (81 miles) from Mutare or 110 kilometres (68 miles) from Nyanga. The Nyangani range of mountains, stretching westwards up to Chirikuutsi, forms the northern boundary of the valley. The western boundary stretches from Mutazi Falls through the Manga range, all the way to Muponda. In the south, are Chirowa, Ruunji and Nyakabinga mountains while on the eastern border are the range of mountains that stretch from Mutsago, Nyamaponjo down to Mahwemasimike; a stone throw away from Mozambique.

A Driving Pleasure into Honde Valley
Approaching from Mutare, the turn off is about 50km along Zeneni Road towards Nyanga. The drive down into the valley from Mutare is a delight. After the Christmas junction, you turn into Zeneni towards Old Mutare Mission. After crossing Mutare River, you have Africa University nestling on your left and Old Mutare Mission gate on your left. After Watsomba, the road turns right east off the Juliasdale Road and shortly thereafter drops downwards from about 1600m to 700m above sea level. A 900m altitude change over 17 twisting and turning kilometres of tyred road through a heavily populated region with homesteads on mountain slopes starting at Gwiriri. Just before the Honde Bridge turnoff towards Samaringa High, there is the Gatsi Secondary School on the right hand side. Here, you can have a full view of the picturesque Mutarazi Falls on your left.

Immediately after this, is the Honde Bridge turn off, just before the Bvuma Business cluster. Gliding towards Hauna Growth Point, you cross Mutarazi River and then pass Gatsi Primary School on your left. Shortly after that you can stop to view the majestic Mahwemasimike directly in front with the blooming Mutsatsa for a memorable photo shot. After that, you come to Hauna now on the way to the Tea Estates to be comforted by the overwhelming natural beauty. It’s time to share the inherent wonders of pristine natural environment with visitors, who share our same passion for the beautiful scenery.
